Made from Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss, horticultural perlite and horticultural vermiculite, this soilless mix has been formulated to provide a very good air/water ratio to plants. Developed especially for the float system,  this media is coarse in texture and contains a wide range of particle size distribution. It is also amended with a superior wetting agent for uniform initial wicking. The pH is also adjusted with limestone and dolomite.

This media is designed to be coarse, which maximizes air porosity in the cell for maximum root and shoot growth, and for better wicking. Float systems present different requirements than overhead watering. In a float system there is no shortage of water. However, the water holding capacity of the soil mix that you are using can cause a shortage of air pores. The biggest concern is that the mix provide the most air porosity possible..

University research has shown that a wide range of particle size distribution is most desirable when considering a medium for float environments. A media that is ground to fine does not have a good particle size distribution and will have poor air porosity. This mix has an excellent wide range of particle size distribution, which provides for excellent air porosity.

Click on the link below and learn what is meant by “a wide range of particle size distribution” and why it is so important for a mix that is being used in a float system to have this attribute. You may be surprised to learn that the soil mix that you have been using does not have a “wide range of particle size distribution” and is poorly structured for the float system. Read the article below, you will never look at your soil mix the same again. This is an eye opener.
